Week Five at Pets Story

On Monday the 26th of August Savannah, Jessica, Lachy, Ion and Caitlin went to Pets Story for the fifth time. When we walked in we were greeted by Shane and said we said hello to each other and we got straight into work.

The first thing we did was make cat scratchers. Jessica and Savannah were building one together and finished first (even though it was the biggest)! Caitlin and Lachy were building one by themselves. The one Caitlin was going to do broke before she opened it and obviously Shane couldn’t sell it so she put it back into the box for Shane to get a new one. Ion was doing one by himself. Once Lachy was finished, Caitlin and Lachy did another one together.

After that Jessica asked the questions, this week’s questions were about advertising and marketing. While Jessica was doing that Ion was still building the same cat scratcher, even though everyone already finished a while ago. When Jessica was done with the questions she went to help Ion to build cat scratcher.

When Jessica and Ion finally finished building the cat scratcher, Savannah, Jessica and Caitlin held a rabbit, the rabbits were so soft.

Then unfortunately it was time to go, we said goodbye and headed off back to school. We all had a wonderful time and we all can’t wait to go back for our final time next week.

Week 4 at Pets Story

On Monday the 19th of August Savannah, Jessica, Lachy, Ion and Caitlin went to Pets Story. When we walked in we saw Shane and we said hello. Then Savannah and Jessica cleaned the birds and Lachy, Ion and Caitlin cleaned the rabbits. We cleaned the water, food and the rabbits houses. The birds take longer then the rabbits because the birds have more to do and there is more poo and more birds.

There where two new rabbits and one was brown and the other was black. The black one was so soft and fluffy! We called it Fluff ball! While Ion was asking the questions the girls were holding and cleaning the rabbits. Shane gave us some brushes to clean the rabbits. Savannah and Jessica sat down and brushed the rabbits fur. Jessica also showed Savannah how to tame them, like she does for shows for her guinea pig.
While the girls were playing with the rabbits,  Lachy taught Charlie the cockatoo how to handshake. Though by this time, it was time to go. We said our goodbyes and headed off to school. We really enjoyed the session and we can’t wait until next week!

Week 3 at Pets Story

On Monday Jessica, Caitlin, Lachy, Savannah and Ion went to Pets Story for the third time.  We opened up the door to find Shane and Nathan, we were a bit late and Charlie (the bird) was already out of his cage, eating his seeds. We said hello and it was off to work. Like always we changed and cleaned the food and water, cleaned the toys and checked the animals.

The girls chose to do the bunnies and guinea pigs and the boys chose the birds. The boys took longer because the birds need more work and during that time, Savannah asked the questions. The boys were still cleaning so the girls looked at all the animals.

Finally, the boys were done and Savannah asked the remaining questions. As we were looking at the birds, we saw some extra food that all the birds were going to get, and it was not the seeds! Shane told us it was egg and biscuits. We found it in a packaging and it smelt nice (the egg and biscuits was in a powder)! When we went back to the bird the were having a bath, it was so funny!

But unfortunately it was time to go, we had a great time and we cant wait for next week!

Pets Story Week 2

On Monday the 5th of August, the pet shop group (Ion, Lachy, Jessica, Caitlin and Savannah) had our second visit to Pet’s Story. Last week when we got to the shop we met Shane, the manager, but this week were got introduced to Nicole.

This week’s topic is on the nuts and bolts of the shop. Some of our questions were how do you keep your customers happy and what are the most sold products in the shop?

At the start of the day the owner Nathan was getting the shop started for the rest of the day. Nicole came after a few minutes after we arrived then we got started. We fed the rabbits, guinea pigs, birds and fish. After we fed the animals we cleaned the cages.

After all the cleaning and feeding we asked our questions. The facts were really interesting and we had no idea how much stuff pet shops have to do each day!

After the questions we got extra homework. We had to learn about how fighting fish get into rice paddy puddles, how long a stick insect lives and how long does a stick insect egg take to hatch? We were all excited about getting our homework, it seemed very interesting.

At the end of the day Nathan thought of and great idea, to show that we paid attention to the questions he gave us a quiz and if we pass we get a prize. We were all determend to win. Over all we all got a prize for completing the quiz and we had a great time at our second week at Pets Story.

Pets Story

On Monday the 29th of July Lachy, Jess, Caitlin, Savannah, Ion and Mrs Grima (Michelle) went to a pet shop called Pets Story. When we got there we met the manager Shane. As he was he was vacuuming around the bird, rabbit and guinea pig cages, he told us what he has to do every morning before the customers arrive.

After he finished vacuuming he gave us a tour around the shop as he was checking to see if any of the animals had gotten sick over night. As we passed the rabbits there was a little white rabbit with an opaque eye. Shane told us that the rabbit may have got scratched or a piece of hay got stuck in its eye.

We looked at the rest of the animals and we asked a lot of questions about them! Next we looked at a bird called Charlie who was a sulphur cockatoo, he sits on his perch next to the counter and would occasionally talk and bite Caitlin on her jacket! We found out that the sulphur cockatoo can be worth up to $1000 if they can talk and if they can’t they would be worth about $400, and they can live up to 125 years old!

Then Shane told us if we want to we can hold the rabbits and guinea pigs, of course we all rushed over there and held the animals. Shane said that they were only 5 weeks old! They were so cute and fluffy!

Next we asked Shane our 10 questions and he answered them with heaps of detail. As we were asking him our question the owner, Nathan came in. We said hello and he went off to do a job. Just as we finished a little dog came in for grooming.

We watched a lady wash him, it was very cute when he had soap all over him! Unfortunately, it was time to go. We said goodbye and came back to school.  Over all we had a great time and we can’t wait for our next session!

Clean Up Day

On Friday the 1st of March, the school participated in clean up Australia day. We got into our house colour teams and divided the school into four parts for different house teams to clean up. Green did the Avila track, Gold did behind the school, Red did the oval, and Blue did the quadrangle and car park.

Some of the things we found were wrappers, paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, foil, juice boxes, and bandaids.

Compared to last year, and years before we found a little amount of rubbish this year, which means we have had little amount of pollution and our school has become a better environment.

Holy Family Choir

November 4, 2012 by Jess SG | 2 Comments

The Holy Family Choir is a group of children who love singing and music. Kids from grades 2-6 participate to have fun! Each year, the number of singing children increases. The teacher who organises it is Mrs. Mitchell, our music teacher.

The choir participated in many performances such as the Christmas Carol and a yearly concert at Box Hill. We bring smiles to the people at nursing homes by singing cheery songs and sometimes by giving Christmas Cards. Our songs which we are singing, are Grim Grinning Ghosts and  Have you got a Phobia?

Choir is a great group to join in. We have great fun but it is hard work with the morning practices but it is worth it. The choir is having an up-coming performance on the 14th of November at Box Hill and we are all excited!

Volleyball Tournament

November 2, 2012 by larac | 5 Comments

On the 2nd of  November, the volleyball team from Holy Family School competed in the preliminary finals.  We came  third in the division. It started at 9:30am, our first opponent was St. Justin’s and unfortunately they won both sets. Then we played Glendal and again to another unfortunate loss. Overall we were very happy about our performance, hopefully next year we can bring home a flag.
