5/6 Camp

On the 18th of September the year 5/6 went on school camp to Anglesea recreation camp. When we got to the camp we met Chelsea and talked about what we were going to do at the camp and what to expect. One of my favourite activities was the Giant Swing.

The giant swing is 18 meters tall and you go up to about16 meters. You had to wear a harness which was very complicating. Then when it was my turn I had to sit on a ladder. Then the instructor would clip a rope to my harness that would keep me safe.

My team mates had to support me by pulling a rope that would pull me up to the top. Then the instructor told everyone to give a count down. By the time they already said two I was like freaking out and they one I was so scared that I couldn’t pull the string.

I tried and tried then I used both hands and got the shock of my life. After a few swings I could see a river and houses I could see the yabbying group. I felt lie I was Tarzan. It was so much fun.

When I got down I was so scared I could hardly move but I would say it was the best experience and I would love to do it again.

IGA Week 5

On the 28th of August Lara, Darren, Ashanya and Josh W went to IGA. This week our topic was advertising and marketing. Marc taught us that it is not Ritchies who make the ads but it is the people who give IGA the products who make up the lines. He also taught us that IGA rarely does ads. The way they create ads is by finding a catchy line and then finding someone who a lot of people in the public know.

Then he introduced us to Bruce who is a rep. from Berttochi. He is a little bit different to Karen. He is also a marketer. Bruce told us that he comes to IGA and looks at IGA’s  products to see if there is enough Berttochi. He has worked for Berttochi for 6 or 7 years and at another place at 20 years. He said that he stopped working at the first place that he worked at because they only supplied 30% of the products requested by businesses. For example if IGA requested 100 products his old business would only provide 30 products. Then if another brand provided the same products but with 100% IGA would get it from another brand and not from the brand which could only provide 30% of IGA’s request.

Then Marc asked us to face up his products in the deli because the boss of IGA Fred Harris is coming in. He only comes once a year so everyone in the store was rushing around so that it would look nice. We were so excited because this is a very rare experience. Then Marc told us that Fred’s visit was delayed so we had to go.

Despite the disappointment it was still a great trip!

IGA Week 3

This week our topic is “Knowing your product, trade and service” so our questions are based around the topic like every other session. When we got there we asked our questions to Helen (Marc’s Workmate) and she answered them for us. Then we had to put prices on products and the put them up on shelf. After that we had to go looking on the shelves to see if any products had already expired because Ritchies always sell fresh products. Then we went to Marc’s office and found out about how different departments work even better to sell their product. Later we learnt how to operate a cash register. Apparently you have to learn a lot of codes for every single product. Before we left we put some other products to put om the shelf.

We had a lot of fun and can’t wait till our next session.

On the 7th of August we went on our second visit to IGA. When we got there we asked Marc a few questions about the nuts and bolts topic. After that we went back into the freezer and got some Anzac biscuits to bake in the oven we all had to put gloves on then spray the tray so the Anzac biscuits didn’t stick to the tray when they were ready.

We had to wait about 15 minutes until they were finished so in the spare time we had to face all the drinks the right way and put them in the right place so that you could see the brand. Then Marc organized a little job for us to do which involved us placing products like cheese and lasagne on the right shelf and checking if the use by date is okay.

Finally our Anzac biscuits were ready and we all had a container to put about 6 or 7 in each, we all had a great day and cant wait for our next session!

IGA inquiry session!

For our inquiry topic this term we are learning about economics and businesses. Today, the 31st of July our group went to IGA supermarket in Mount Waverley. For our first session we got a tour of the store and learnt the OHS rules. We got to see many departments such as the fruit and veg, Leonards, bakery, deli, dairy, freezer, grocery, front and and liquor. We also found out that the freezer is kept at -18 degrees and the fridge was 5 degrees. We can’t wait for our next session!

5/6’s Expo Day

On the 24th of June the 5/6s had a learning expo to present all of their inquiry learning for term2 . I was learning about ‘How the Weather Changes’. I presented a diorama based on the ‘Water Cycle’ and wrote an explanation on how it works. When someone came to my station I would show them my water cycle and then read them my explanation. I think that the day was really great because I presented very well and people were giving me warm feedback. Something I enjoyed was that the preps came to see my presentation and I taught them something new that was part of their inquiry too. I loved learning about the weather and I hope I can do something like this again soon.

On my long weekendI went  to Yarrawonga.

Yarrawonga is a place all around water because it is at the border from Victoria and New South Wales.

Going to Yarrawonga from Mount Waverley is about a four hour car drive. We went with some of our family friends, Dullain and they organised the trip. How nice!

The  next day we had a nice English breakfast and went down to go on the banana boats and water slide. It was so much fun because the water slide was so fast and the banana boat always tipped us over, later on we went to the pool for a cool swim. Later on  our other friends Liseni, Rythma and Saptha came, then we all went to the park.

We all got up very quickly and get dressed for great fun on the bannana boats and waterslide again. The water slide was faster and the banana boat tipped us over double the time. IT WAS THE BEST DAY EVER!  After all the fun Liseni had to go home 🙁

It was the last day and we had to pack up really fast and go home. Before all that we had icy poles and they were so yummy, then finally  HOME SWEET HOME !

That is the end of my long weekend! Sorry that I  haven’t put up any photos but I will soon.

My Camping

Last week I went camping at Lake Eildon.

We go as a family every month with my cousins Kiyara and other members.

I had so much fun swimming in the lake,  toasting marshmallows and best of all having a water fight!

It was fun setting up tents and not having electricity, even if the maximum was about 35 degrees and with all the flies all around bugging us; but it was all worth if for just 4 days and a bit of fun

Clean Up Day

On Friday the 1st of March, the school participated in clean up Australia day. We got into our house colour teams and divided the school into four parts for different house teams to clean up. Green did the Avila track, Gold did behind the school, Red did the oval, and Blue did the quadrangle and car park.

Some of the things we found were wrappers, paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, foil, juice boxes, and bandaids.

Compared to last year, and years before we found a little amount of rubbish this year, which means we have had little amount of pollution and our school has become a better environment.

To be continued…
