On Wednesday the 30th May, the whole of Holy Family School went into the city for a excursion. We got to see a lot of things in the city like the symphony orchestra play at the town hall, a church called St. Francis and a spectacular art museum. My favourite part of the excursion was seeing Hosier Lane to see the really cool graffiti on the walls. There was a lot of magnificent art on the walls. The art was created by talented artists that had a passion to be creative. As the art was absolutely flawless and awesome, visiting Hosier Lane is a time I will always remember.

On Friday the 1st of March, the school participated in clean up Australia day. We got into our house colour teams and divided the school into four parts for different house teams to clean up. Green did the Avila track, Gold did behind the school, Red did the oval, and Blue did the quadrangle and car park.
Some of the things we found were wrappers, paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, foil, juice boxes, and bandaids.
Compared to last year, and years before we found a little amount of rubbish this year, which means we have had little amount of pollution and our school has become a better environment.

The benches are now finally finished and all of us have really enjoyed making them. We had a lot of help from Jeff (from The Lion’s Club) and we wouldn’t have made the benches without him. We have enjoyed painting and drilling the holes into the benches. We have learnt how to build well made benches and what materials are needed for their construction. We have learnt about being safe when building things and we learnt more about working together. There were some roots in the ground, where we were going to put the benches originally so we move their location. The building project was really fun and all of us would love to do it again.
On week 5 we started to dig the holes. The holes were 45 centimetres deep and we dug 9 holes. Then we put the legs in and put the concrete in after with water.
On week 6 we continued putting the concrete and water into the holes. After the legs were in place we measured were to put the planks and started to drill the planks in place. After the planks on two of the benches were drilled in place we started to paint the benches.
On week 7 we drilled the planks on the other bench and re-coated the benches that we painted last week. Next we painted the other bench and we finally finished the benches. Next we took the extra dirt to the garden and put it in the garden beds.

As you might have read from Jessica’s post, choir sang at the Box Hill Town Hall – for Oxfam. The girls and boy were all very excited to be on stage! We got to sit on the performing side while we waited to be called. Although we were supposed to be on first we were moved back to be on third. Special Recorder, another club run by our music techer – Mrs Mitchell, performed sixth.
The Choir sang Grim Grinning Ghosts and Have you got a Phobia? While Special Recorder played four christmas songs – Ding Dong Merrily on High, We wish you a Merry Christmas, Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer and one more.
The other acts were all very good as well. They performed songs, instruments, dances and even plays. An especially good play was called Toungue Twister Town – you can imagine how it might have sounded! Everyone was really talented and performed incredibly well.
Overall the night went really well and we all had lots of fun and are ready to perform again!
The Holy Family Choir is a group of children who love singing and music. Kids from grades 2-6 participate to have fun! Each year, the number of singing children increases. The teacher who organises it is Mrs. Mitchell, our music teacher.
The choir participated in many performances such as the Christmas Carol and a yearly concert at Box Hill. We bring smiles to the people at nursing homes by singing cheery songs and sometimes by giving Christmas Cards. Our songs which we are singing, are Grim Grinning Ghosts and Have you got a Phobia?
Choir is a great group to join in. We have great fun but it is hard work with the morning practices but it is worth it. The choir is having an up-coming performance on the 14th of November at Box Hill and we are all excited!

On the 17 of October Josh C, Matt, Josh I, Ethan vL and Chris started to make benches with a man named Jeff. Our project was building benches for our school and this happens every week on Wednesday. We had to use our maths skills to work out the cheapest price and we had to stay within our budget and not go over it. We had to work as a team to get our goal, to finish the benches well and not make any mistakes.
On the first week we started to plan where the benches would be and which timber we would buy. Next week we found out what we needed and where we had to get everything from. We also found out the total price, the measurements of the wood and the colour paint we were going to use. The wood we chose to was red gum. On the third week we started to cut the wood and then we sanded the wood. Next we started painting the wood a colour that looks the same as the colour we have on our benches.
We are currently still in progress in building the benches for the school. All of us are enjoying the building project and are looking forward to continuing the building project.

On the last day of term 3 Holy Family had a footy day. In the morning we did a quiz, some of the questions where who won the Brownlow last year? and who came runner up? Then at 10:30am we had an assembly and we found out who got the most questions right on the quiz. We came 2nd.
After snack we had a footy clinic; we practised kicking, handballing and we did some running games like octopus and a lot more. It was great fun, and later at lunch we had a sausage sizzle. The sausages tasted awesome.
Overall it was a great day.

On the 8th of October 2012 the senior school went to camp. We went to Arrabri Lodge which is in Warburton. There were many activities in store for us including The Giant Swing which was the favourite of many people. There was also The Flying Fox, Archery, Mini Golf, Orienteering, Inavinatives and Ropes course.
On the first night we had a bush dance with a guy called ‘Felix’ he was part of an outback band called ‘bushwazee’. We did four dances with him and by the time we finished it was 9:00. After that we went for a bush walk. At the end of the trail there was a campfire all ready for us to use. Once we all got to the end and had marshmallows Mr Hyde told us a scary ghost story about Warburton and with the main characters of Bob and Bruce.
The next night we had free time then we had Camp Idol, there were four acts. The first act was Demitri he was singing Joseph our school concert song. The second act of the night was Ethan P, Max, Chris, Cameron and Hugo there act was Two Direction The next act was Angelina, Olivia and Alice and they were doing calisthenics. Then there was a last minute sign up who was One Direction which was performed by Sarah.C and Matilda.B. Then Two Direction decided to perform another time and in the end the winners were Angelina, Olivia and Alice.
On the last day of camp we all woke up tired. We then found out that we had to go on a hike. We walked on a bridge over treetops because the Yarra River was underneath us. We then hopped on the bus to the ride back to school. Many people slept on the bus but when we got back everyone was tired and glad to go home.

On Friday, the whole school celebrated Anti Poverty week. The whole school had a special liturgy, where the individuals donated a few dollars to the poor countries. We reflected by listening to some music, reflected by our self, prayed and did some meditation. We also watched some videos about Anti Poverty week. We talked about what poverty is.
